Katelynn's Birth Story

Here we go. I want to get this written down just for me and if you want to read this you can otherwise you can skip this. I hope to get pics up today too. (PS this took me three days to get posted)

During the day on Thursday nesting was really coming to a close. I had taken the car in to be detailed and then the dogs had also been groomed. I did a quick clean of the bathrooms and started vacuuming the bedrooms but decided to finish that on Friday. Katelynn’s room was in order and I had Ben move the pack and play into our bedroom. I had packed my bag earlier in the week and had made a list of companies that needed to be contacted after she was born. I had come to the point where if she came I guess I would be ready. I didn’t think it would be that night.
On Thursday night at 11:45pm I woke up in a huge rush to get to the bathroom. I got there the quickest I had in a month and went more than I had in a month and so everything seemed strange about it. I kept on thinking about Amy whose water broke with her first at work and how she thought she had lost control of her bladder. I knew that I hadn’t lost control of my bladder but I knew something else had to be going on. Being two weeks early I wasn’t expecting any of this. After deciding that it was my water I called to Ben who was in a dead sleep. I called him three or four times before he heard me. He was in as much shock as I was. My water breaking was not just a trickle, I was gushing and leaking and I was feeling disgusting. Since she was still pretty high she wasn’t stopping the flow of fluid.
Ben was really worried that it wasn’t my water and that if it wasn’t and we went in to the hospital they would turn us away. After a few minutes of leaking everywhere Ben was convinced and we got admitted to the hospital at about 2am. While driving to the hospital the song by the Fuggees came on “Ready or not here I come” we both thought that that was very fitting of the situation. I went in with a positive “towel test.” I was sitting on a towel so as not to soak everything I sat on. When I was checked I was at 1 cm and 70% effaced. So we had a long way to go. The nurse called the MD and he said that I could have some pitocin. Until then I still hadn’t felt any contractions. The pit was started probably around 3am and so we just waited around until 7:30 and they checked again and I was a 2-3 and the contractions were getting more and more regular. This was when I sent out the text message and surprised everyone. By 9 I was ready for the epidural and was at 4cm. The anesthesiologist got there at about 9:30 and Katelynn was in a little distress so they place an internal heart rate monitor and I was at 5cm. The contractions were coming one after another and I was in so much pain that I was given a bolus of Fentanyl before the epidural started. It took a while to get the epidural stuff prepped and me relaxed for it. Ben stepped out for about 15 min while the needle was out and I was laying back down at about 10:30 and I was at 10cm.
The epidural worked and there was no pain in my belly but I felt everything in my right leg but my left leg was dead numb. I was happy enough since I couldn’t feel the main pain. My MD was out of town so the on call MD came in right before his 11 o’clock c-section. We did a couple of pushes then and it was decided that I would labor down until after his surgery. From 10:30 until 12 it was so nice. I was relaxed and Katelynn was doing well on the monitor. The MD came in at 12 and checked out the pushes again and we were ready to have a baby. I did about 4 sets of 3 pushes and she was born at 12:12pm.
Everything went really well at the hospital and we were able to go home the next day. Ben stayed the night, which I was very glad about since I probably would have been an emotional wreck if he had to have left.

Here we are two and a half weeks later and things are still going well. We have had many ups and MANY downs along the way and are still adjusting to having her around but we absolutely love her and can’t wait to watch her grow and develop.

Katelynn

Yes, she is here and is 6 days old. She is doing wonderful and is ever so patient with her parents who are learning to take care of her.

She was born on Friday May 8th at 12:12pm. She weighed 7lbs and 6oz and was 21.5 inches. The only bad thing about the labor was that my left leg recieved 75% of the epidural, but it was still able to cover the rest of the pain very well too. I just wasn't able to feel my leg for a couple of hours after when the rest of me was ready to get up.

I will get some pics up soon, I am just trying to adjust to everything. Ben has been wonderful and I am SSSSOOOO glad that he has until the day after Memorial Day off.

Appt

Here's the update. No change. I go back next Tuesday. Exciting stuff, huh? I knew nothing would be going on dramatically we still have two weeks untill the due date. I must say though I am getting pretty uncomfortable. In the mornings I am usually doing pretty well and can get up and down without complaining (moaning) but by night time it gets harder and harder to get up and down. Sleeping is getting worse and worse. I was up last night from 1:30 until 4. Not Fun. I did that last week too. This time though I got up and read from Jane Austen's Persuasion. Maybe I should do my scripture reading then.

I did get my bag packed and the carseat is ready (not installed but ready). What is something that you had or wished you had while at the hospital? I am trying not to bring too much extra but I have no clue really of what I NEED. I am asking for ideas ladies (and if there are any gentlemen out there that read this). What should Ben have?

So, on to the waiting game. As for the date on the Lay Out from a couple of days ago that was just a computer and user malfunction. Thanks for pointing it out though I need to change that. I will talk to you all later though.

Erin and Dave are Coming!!

So, for the past few months Erin has teased me a few times about coming out. She has said she would be here in July, then it was May, then it was not sure, but really want to. Finally, a photo class that she has been stalking opened up in LA and she paid for it so that means she is in CA and so she and Dave will be coming up to Fresno after the class. They'll be here in less than a month and she will have her photo stuff with her and we will be having a photo shoot with Katelynn. I am so freakin' excited. Ben and Dave will do whatever it is they do and Erin and I will be content with eachother.

I have my appt in a few hours and will update when I can. I will talk to you all later.

What's New

Why does it say 18 days on that ticker there? That is a little weird. Everything has been going well for the pregnancy. I haven't felt any braxton hicks or even real contractions. She feels like she is everywhere. Her butt likes to be on my upper right and her feet like to be on the left. Every once in a while she will stretch her foot and I will have a little bubble on my side that I can pinch. I can also push her foot back and forth in my belly. Ben still thinks that there is an Alien in me.

A guy Ben goes mountain biking with said to us on Wed and I think it is true too that guys really don't feel like a dad until they see the baby while the mom has maternal instincts usually the moment she finds out she is pregnant. There is a definite connection between me and Katelynn that I don't think Ben has just yet but will get when she sees her and holds her. That will be weird to be holding our baby and it is just days away.

I had an appt yesterday and I got checked out. he said that I was softening but no dilation. He also said that if anytime after 38 weeks I am dilating he would schedule and induction. So that is next week. I will see him on Tues and we will see how things are going. I don't think that I will want to induce until after the 10th so it things are happening next week I will schedule something after the 10th unless she decides that she wants to be here sooner. Who knows nothing might have changed from Thursday to Tuesday. The fun times of the waiting game.

Here is my pic from 36 weeks. I will probably do one more and then I should put together a panel to see the entire progression. I hope everyone is well. I will type at you all later.

Anna

This is worth blogging about!!!

Disclaimer: Becca you will not appreciate this post, sorry ;)

Every year when spring comes I start watching and looking and waiting for STRAWBERRIES!! The thing is the strawberries in the store are not what I am looking for. Neither are the strawberries that are on the corner being sold in printed boxes. I am waiting for the ones that are in the shack type stands where the patch is right behind where you buy them, in the cardboard boxes with green baskets. Oh, those are the ones I am talking about. They are HUGE and SSSOOOO red and ripe. They are so delicious. And so when the strawberries come that means Home Made Strawberry Pie.

Here's what you need
1 Deep dish premade Pie Crust
4 baskets of strawberries (you probably will only 3 but the 4th is good for taste testing LOL)
1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
4 tbsp Cornstarch

Cook pie crust according to package directions for a crisp crust 10-15 min then cool. While that is baking prepare strawberries. 1 cup mashed strawberries and then fill pie crust with bite size pieces just level. Cook mashed strawberries and water in small pot for 2 min. Mix cornstarch and sugar well add to pot. Mix and dissolve sugar. Continue mixing until it thickens to a jelly state. It will start turning darker and jelling around the pot. When it doesn't run pour over pie. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

My mom made this pie every summer while growing up and it is so yummy. Ben loves when he sees it in the refrigerator.
